Building Luxury Homes at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate, Stellenbosch

Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate sits just outside Stellenbosch, with a championship golf course, a working wine farm and the Winelands mountains behind it. When the estate opened a new phase of 45 free-standing homes, Renov8 was appointed to build the show house: the home every future owner would walk through before choosing their own.

The brief

The homes were designed and engineered by Dennis Moss Architects, with 14 house styles on erven of 560 m² to 1,000 m² and homes of 455 m² to 600 m². The show house had to set the standard for the whole phase. Every detail would be seen, and every detail would be repeated.

What we built

A full ground-up build, from setting-out to roof:

• Structure. Face-brick walls on reinforced foundations, rising to two storeys.
• First-floor slab. A rib-and-block slab with reinforcing steel, poured with a concrete pump and ready-mix trucks on site, and placed and levelled by the Renov8 team.
• Roof. Timber trusses over the brick gables, with sheeting over the single-storey wing.
• Openings and finishes. Steel window frames, a covered patio, and a plastered band that sets off the face brick.

How we ran it

One accountable team managed the programme, procurement and trades, working to the architect’s drawings and the estate’s design rules. Progress was documented at every stage, from the first pegs in the ground to the last roof sheet, so the developer could see exactly where the build stood.
